Regaining Hair Loss The Nigerian Way.

By Joyce Awele.

Back in my youthful  days, i was envied by my peers. both young and old wanted to know the secret to my long hair and i did not know how to respond back because i had no idea .all i know was that i did everything a Nigerian girl in secondary school did during weekends after school week-Weaving ,braids. It was Christmas period everyone was getting ready for it and  so was i ,so i entered the salon to get my Christmas hair fixed and as usual my hair got the attention of other customers who were there to fix their hair as well.

Hair stylist- what do you want to do to your hair?

Me-i want something different. something I’ve never done before*thinking* Ooh i got it, Hair dye.

Hair Stylist-OK.

So to cut the long story short, i lost my hair *screamed*images (5) I lost my black, beautiful, long natural hair to Hair dye. well i wanted something different, i got something different indeed.I just could not bring myself to cutting my remaining hair complete when everyone was telling me”cut it all off so it can grow back again”.

So Once again i got to the salon to know if my hair could be fixed and the result was negative. just as i was about to walk out of the salon, a very Nice young lady advised me to wait a little while for my hair to grow out and then make HANUBIU , DIDI Big-didi-cornrowsHair style and add Adi-agbon (coconut oil). i was so happy and thanked her for reminding me of it because i remember back then as a young girl, each time i did the hairstyle my hair became more full and long. so i did and within one mouth it worked its magic. i know……you’l be confused at what i’m talking about, fear not because i’m about to show you.

It Is a Normal hair plaiting but with a twist.Normally the stylist will be at the back of the customer plaiting her hair but in this case its the reverse, he or she will be at the front of the customer using his or her thumb-fingers to plait the style.

You can try it and see what happens to your hair*winks*

I love…..makeup and the first time I was introduced to makeup was exciting for me; the beauty of the colours and how to apply them on but knowing the type of makeup brushes and their uses was quite challenging for me.
I know a lot of you ladies out there would feel the exact same way as I once did so……I did a little research and here is what I learnt from Makeup Geek. With thousands of makeup brushes out there, trying to decide which ones to add to your makeup collection can be overwhelming. However, having the correct brushes can make all the difference in your makeup application.
Now Here is makeup geek Top Ten makeup brushes everyone should own and the correct way to use them.

Flat Stiff Brush.
Flat-Stiff-550x366
This is my go to brush and one I reach for daily. The purpose of this brush is for packing colour on the lid. The stiff bristles allow you to push the eye shadow onto the base easier and allows it to stick. You can also use the tip of the brush to smudge colour under the lash line as well or create a defined line in the crease.

Stiff Dome Brush
Stiff-Dome-550x366
This brush is great for blending out harsh lines and feathering colours. However, the Makeup Geek pointed crease brush has a slightly pointed tip instead of the more dome shape the MAC has. This makes it more precise and easier to use on smaller eyes. This is great for feathering out colour to create a Smokey eye, or for blending out the crease. This brush is meant for blending instead of packing on colour.

Pencil Brush
Pencil-550x366
This brush is ideal for smudging colour either under or on top of the eye. This can also be used in the crease to give a very defined cut crease appearance to the eye. You can also use this brush in the outer corner of the eye with a dark colour to give added depth and drama to the look of your eye as well. The small size of the brush give you a more precise application.

Soft Dome Brush
Soft-Dome-550x366
This brushes soft bristles are ideal for blending out harsh lines below the brow bone of the eye using windshield wiper motions. This is also perfect for blending out concealer under the eye to help hide dark circles and bags.

Bent Liner Brush
Bent-Liner-550x367
This brush is specifically designed for applying gel eyeliner. The bent head makes it ideal for laying on the top of the lashes and dragging the eyeliner out to a winged shape. The pointed tip helps give you a very cat eye, winged out line that makes this brush fool proof when using it.

Dual Ended Lash Brush
Dual-ended-550x366
This is one of those brushes where you get double the product for your money. One end has the spoolie that allows you to brush through your brows. The other end is an angled brow brush and great for filling in your brows with a powder or even a gel liner if you want a very crisp, defined brow.

FACE BRUSHES
Blush/Contour Brush
Blush-Brush-550x366
There are so many of these on the market and in a lot of different shapes from round, fluffy, and even angled ones. With blush you can use many different types of brushes, for me personally I love the angled blush brush.

You can set the angled brush on your cheekbone and sweep it downward and get an easy and flawless application of blush. If the brush is thin enough, you can take the brush and lay it on its “side” to use as a contour brush to enhance the cheekbones.

Cheek Highlighter Brush
Cheek-Highlighter-550x366
This brush is completely optional to have but the feathery, soft bristles of this brush give a very nice finish to any product you use it with. I like having this brush and use it to apply highlighter to the top of my cheekbones. You can also use these with cream blushes to stipple the colour onto the cheeks for an airbrushed finish.

Foundation Stippling Brush
Foundation-02-550x366
This is for those of you who love a full coverage look to your foundation. The flat head is made for the foundation to be stippled onto the face. This assures there are no streaks in the foundation and gives a very airbrushed and flawless look to the skin.

Beauty Blender
BB2
So technically this isn’t really a brush but how could I not include it? The egg shaped design makes it ideal for getting under the eye and in small areas. This is what I use every day to apply my foundation. It’s easy and quick to pat the foundation on and then I roll it toward the hairline to blend it into a smooth, flawless finish. This is a must have for day to day foundation wearing!
These are the makeup brushes that the Makeup Geek says are must haves for either the beginner or someone who wants to know how to expand their brushes. I highly recommend getting these types of brushes in terms of the shape to get the most out of your makeup application. I certainly hope this helps you in deciding which brushes you need. Much love*kisses and hugs*

Finding Your Face shape.

It’s a beautiful morning. You wake up, take a shower, put on your outfit  and apply your makeup But….while looking at your mirror have you ever stop to wonder “What is my face shape?”  and  “Which haircut would look good on me? I know I have… So I Did a little research and discovered that 80-90% of Nigerian women do not know their face shapes; as a result , this has lead to inappropriate and  excess makeup for different events, wrong hair styles for different face shapes. So…Here is a chart  I came across that is FABULOUS! I highly recommend everyone to look at this chart and figure out which shape belongs to you. So…..Slick your hair back and pay close attention to the points of your jaw line, temples, and cheekbones.  Once you figure out your face shape it will not only help guide you to flattering haircuts or hair styles, but makeup applications as well.
Types of Shape Faces

There are up to nine face structures: Oval, Oblong, Rectangle, Round, Square, Inverted Triangle, Heart, Diamond, and Triangle.

Oval

The oval shape is one of the most popular face structures. The face is known for it’s symmetrical balanced features, which leads to easy hairstyling and makeup trends. If ones forehead is slightly wider than their chin and the length of their face is more or less one and half times the width, then this persons face is oval.  The only complaints most oval shape people tend to have is that their foreheads are to high or their noses are too big. Nevertheless, this shape is the one closest to be considered “perfect.”

Oblong

The oblong shape has a lot of similarities to the oval shape, but it is longer and not as wide. Oblong is slightly squared and the chin tends to be a bit pointy. Like the oval shape, the oblong does not have a lot of limitations when it comes to makeup or hairstyles. Nevertheless, if you are not an expert in maintaining your hair in perfect conditions at all time, it is best to avoid very long hair. If the length of the hair is too long, the face will appear longer. Best option is to keep your hair at a medium length with nice layers.

Rectangle

A rectangle shape is almost like the square shape, only it is longer then it is wider. Also, the forehead is flat on top and squares off, the chin tends to be flat (similar to the square) and square upwards at the jaw. This structure is very masculine, which is why a feminine hairstyle is very important. Avoid very long flat hair or parting your hair in the middle. Do try medium or short bangs and hairstyles that create volume on the side of your face.

Round

The length and width of a round face are the same, the cheeks tend to be a bit more noticeable. The round face tends to be liked for the reason that it always makes the person with this shape look younger. This shape can easily add extra volume at the top of the head, to create a longer look. Avoid haircuts that end at the cheek, if you wish to go short, pixie hairstyle can work well. Avoid blunt bangs, if you wish for bangs, try some to sweep to the side.

Square

square-face-shapesquare-face-shape90

When someone’s forehead and jawline are of the same width, this person has a square face. The jawline is the most detectable part of the face, the forehead is flat on top and squares off. Often the chin is flat and the jaw squares upwards. This face structure looks like it could be a round shape, but the structure of the forehead will show its true form. Long hair, with waves or straight is often a good option for this shape; nevertheless, a short bob does work as well.

Inverted Triangle/Heart

tyra_banksheart-face-shapereese

Inverted triangle is extremely similar to the heart shaped face. The difference tends to be that the forehead is flat and square. With that aside, the best options with this style is to add bangs and to avoid anything slick back, while The forehead and cheekbones on a heart shaped face is wider then the jaw line. The chin tends to be pointy, the forehead is rounded and the jaw is slimmer. This combination creates a heart shaped face. The best style is short, when it comes to this shape; but if you do go short, add bangs! If short is not for you, then long hairstyles with a lot of waves could be another option. Avoid slick back hair that reveals. The same rules that apply to the heart shaped face basically applies to the inverted triangle.

Diamond

The most drastic part in the Diamond shape face is the cheekbones. The forehead and jawline tends to be on the narrow side. Under the ear, the jawline comes to a point at your chin. The jaw of a diamond shaped face is similar to an oval, but the forehead resembles the triangle shape. If you are a diamond shape, avoid heavy straight bangs. Also, avoid a lot of your hair in front of your face, this causes the shape to look very narrow. To show off the cheekbones, tuck some hair behind your ears.

Triangle

trianglefaceminniedrivertriangle-face-shape<> at BET Studios on January 6, 2010 in New York City.

The triangle shape has a fuller jawline and the forehead is slightly more narrow. The jawline is wide like a square but the forehead is slender, which relates to that of an oval. This shape is one of the least common within the face structures. The most recommended hair option for a triangle shape is to have bangs; however, not every hair is good to have bangs . In those cases, other options are to have ones hair parted in the middle and to have a lot of volume through the crown.

There you have it! The nine face structures that shape the faces of the world.

So….can you guess my face shape?
